Gahkuch, the capital city of Ghizer District, Gilgit-Baltistan, is surrounded by mountains and is 72 km north-west of Gilgit, the provincial capital. The town has a population of about 20,000 and is home to many ethnic groups.
In addition, Gahkuch is the administrative center of the Ghizer District in Gilgit Baltistan, and is a multiethnic region. It is the crossroads between Gilgit and Chitral and the border with China and Tajikistan. Among the languages spoken in Gahkuch are Shina, Wakhi, and Khowar.
Gahkuch Bala
The Gahkuch bala also known as Ayeshi is a very beautiful village and it takes 30 minutes to reach Ayeshi. The Gahkuch bala(Ayeshi) is famous for its fruit, which includes Gunnair, Faice, and Showttor.
The region has a long history. During the 6th century, it was ruled by an dogra Raj.It borders the states of Azad Kashmir to the south and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Afghanistan to the north. The Xinjiang region of China is to the east.

Upper Gahkuch Fort
